ExoAnalytics’ cutting-edge testing service reveals each person’s unique ability to process carbohydrates during exercise, allowing a truly personalised fuelling strategy that maximises performance and minimises digestive issues.

Problems with fuelling
- 01
Performance
Under fuelling is a major contributing factor to declining performance on race day and during training, potentially being the difference between achieving or narrowly missing podiums or personal bests.
- 02
Digestive issues
Over fuelling can lead to anything from trips to the loo before or during a race to significant discomfort or inability to complete a session or event.
- 03
Guesswork
Traditional one-size-fits-all recommendations of 60-90g/hr fall short for the individual. Actual Exo tested suggestions range from 39 - 150+g/hr, with symptoms of over- or under-fuelling not always obvious.
- 04
Pressure
The expectation that everyone else is now taking in excess of 120g/hr, pushing as high as 160, 180, or even 200g/hr.
- 05
Expense
Over the course of a marathon or ironman training block, a Grand Tour race, or an entire professional cycling team's season, the relative cost of nutrition products to the individual or team is a significant factor.

About the Exo Test
A science-backed assessment to identify how many of the carbohydrates you ingest are actually being absorbed by your gut, taken up by your muscles, and burned for energy.
- 01
The session
The ExoAnalytics personalised carbohydrate assessment is a 90 minute submaximal exercise test, carried out below the first lactate threshold (LT1).During your test, you will consume a carbohydrate drink (maltodextrin and fructose) which contains a naturally occurring tracer. You will be provided pre-test instructions which detail what you need to do to get the most out of your session. - 02
What we measure
Breath samples and metabolic data will be collected at fixed points, but for most of the time you will be free to run or cycle. The team will guide you through the test and carry out all of the necessary steps. This is then sent to our lab for analysis before interpretation using Exo's science-backed algorithms. - 03
What you get
You will be provided with a detailed report, highlighting:- your exogenous carbohydrate rate
- your efficiency
- your suggested intakes to optimise your fuelling moving forward
We'll also share more on the science and other factors which may influence your ability to use the carbs you take on.
Typically, the test is carried out on a bike or treadmill, supporting cyclists, runners, and triathletes. If you curious about another sport or setting, please get in touch with the centre or feel free to reach out to the ExoAnalytics team directly and we will discuss how we might support your needs.
Group testing is also available.

“[Before the test] I felt a bit like I was sticking my finger up in the wind and going ‘I think that’s alright.’ There’s something about that mental aspect of being confident that you’re having what’s right for you as opposed to guesswork.”
